What does SamFirm do?

Samsung distributes system updates through its own servers, which normally talk only to phones and to the official Smart Switch program. SamFirm asks the same servers for the latest firmware for a model code, such as SM-something, and a region or carrier code, called CSC. It then downloads the encrypted package at full speed and decrypts it on your PC, leaving you with the standard set of files that Samsung's flashing tools use. The program does not install anything on the phone: it only fetches and prepares the package. Flashing is a separate step done with a tool like Odin3.
